Year 5 have continued to split their focus this week between gymnastics and hockey.  In hockey, students have been developing their shooting, passing and communication skills, while exploring new techniques and applying them in a range of games, including adapted field and ice hockey activities. These sessions have supported teamwork, game awareness and confidence with the ball.  In gymnastics, students have been developing their understanding of rhythm and timing through music, choreographing routines and adapting movements accordingly. They have also performed their routines to their peers, helping to build confidence and performance skills.

Year 5 have continued their ongoing focus on gymnastics and hockey this week, showing good levels of engagement and progression across both activities. In hockey, students have been developing their fundamental knowledge and skills through a variety of circuit-based activities. These circuits incorporated shooting, dribbling, passing and agility, allowing students to practise key techniques while improving their speed, control and decision-making. In gymnastics, Year 5 have been focusing on holding balances independently and in groups, while also making effective use of the apparatus. Students have challenged their core strength, explored different levels and shapes, and built confidence when using equipment safely. These activities have supported pupils in improving their balance, control and overall body awareness.

This week, the children read the book ‘Mixed’ by Arree Chung. This lovely, simple story demonstrated how three colours were friends, until one day, reds declared they were the best. This caused a division and the colours didn’t mix and they were not very nice about the other colours. One day, blue and yellow found themselves sitting next to each other and they enjoyed their time together. Thus, other colours decided to mix together again and some even got married.  This was a great illustration that everybody should be treated equally, not by the colour of their skin or where they were born. A good lesson for us all! Some great photos were made showing different colours working together.
