Dragonmania

Image
This week, the children have been practicing writing descriptive sentences about dragons. Using whiteboards has been so much fun as the children have been able to build up a word bank together and then use the different vocabulary to make and improve their sentences. Furthermore, they have been honing their skills writing sentences using subordinating conjunctions as well as expanded noun phrases and recapping using apostrophes. All the adults working in year five have been truly impressed by the enthusiasm shown and determination.

Maths fun

We had fun in pairs making 5/6 digit numbers then ordering and comparing them.

Numbers up to a million

During maths, the children have been looking at numbers to a million. They have partitioned the numbers, compared them and begun to use a Gattegno Chart to help them visualise what happens to numbers when they become 10 times or a 100 times bigger.

This week, the children have been using picture stimuluses to help them identify different word classes. They have been honing their writing focussing on sentence structure as well as using prepositional phrases. The children have loved using whiteboards to write their sentences as it has taken away the pressure of writing in a book. The results have been wonderful.

French: Je suis le musicien

Year 5 started their new topic - I am the music man. They listened to different genres of music and identified the instruments that are used to create each genre. They used the prepositon - de la to identify the genres. They also found out some facts about France.

PSHE - Online Communication

Image
In Year 5 today we discussed the importance of online communication and talked about whether we always know who we are communicating with. We had some fantastic discussions and looked at some examples of where communication can go wrong, and what to do if it does.

Today in PSHE we have been talking about collaboration and using our collaborative skills to build a tall tower from just 6 sheets of newspaper and tape.
